Lidl Hungary has significantly expanded its logistics capabilities with the inauguration of a new center in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an impressive investment of close to 60 billion forints, equivalent to roughly €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility now stands as the largest warehouse in Hungary for the retailer, set to supply approximately 70 stores across the region. The opening of this center is not just a milestone in logistics but also a considerable boost to local employment, having already created over 400 jobs. Lidl anticipates hiring an additional 50 employees shortly to further support operations.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub is equipped with 194 loading docks and a specialized 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, underscoring its capacity to handle diverse product needs efficiently. In a nod to sustainability, the facility boasts a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on its roof, alongside systems that cleverly harness waste heat from the refrigeration process for underfloor heating. Complementing these green initiatives, a 10,000-square-meter area around the site has been developed into a biodiverse green space, enhancing the environmental footprint of the logistics center.
With this new facility, Lidl is poised to enhance its supply chain efficiency across Hungary, as it gears up to dispatch an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods daily. This logistical endeavor underlines Lidl’s commitment to fortifying its nationwide supply network, ensuring that its operations keep pace with the growing demands of its market. The strategic location and advanced capabilities of the center are expected to play a crucial role in optimizing the retailer’s distribution processes.
Currently, Lidl operates a robust network of 220 stores throughout Hungary, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, which strengthens its economic ties within the country. The expansion of its logistics infrastructure through this new center serves to bolster Lidl’s ongoing growth strategy, reinforcing its presence and operational strength in the domestic market. As Lidl continues to expand its footprint, the enhanced logistics center will be pivotal in supporting this trajectory and maintaining the quality and efficiency of its services.
