China’s foreign trade demonstrated robust growth during the first eight months of the year, achieving a total import and export value of 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The rise in trade was driven by substantial gains in both exports and imports. Specifically, exports reached 20.17 trillion yuan, marking a 14.6% rise, while imports surged by 22% to 14.61 trillion yuan.
The momentum of trade growth gained further strength in August, with the total value of goods imports and exports escalating by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. During this month, exports expanded by 18.6%, while imports experienced a 21.7% increase. This marked a continuation of the trend observed over the past several months, where both imports and exports have consistently achieved double-digit growth rates.
For four consecutive months, the year-on-year growth rates for both exports and imports have remained in the double digits. Notably, the growth in imports has consistently outpaced that of exports over the past six months. This sustained trend highlights the vigorous demand for foreign goods within China and reflects the country’s active role in global trade.
The steady rise in China’s trade figures underscores the country’s economic resilience and its ability to maintain strong trade relationships despite global economic challenges. The consistent growth in imports and exports signals a dynamic and interconnected trading environment, with China continuing to play a pivotal role in international markets.
